In the 1980s and 90s I encountered ZL1AMO on the bands a number of times from different Pacific Island spots. His CW was always super sharp and fast and it kept my dream alive about one day being able to visit the places. He was a true CW Pileup master. When I joined force with NH6RT – Kiyoko Yamakami for a DX-Pedition as it happened we flew in I believe a day before or after Ron without knowing he was even going there. We had announced the ZK2KY, ZK2KK DX-Pedition well in advance. While touring the island on motorbike one day we headed over to see Ron who was busy with Pileups so it was a very brief encounter. As it happens though we ended up flying back to Samoa on the same plane so we met again at the airport.
Even thougfh there was less than 2000 people on Niue at the time it so happens that there was even a fourth ham there and even more coincidental is that it was another Swede 🙂
